This is just a quick update to say that I’ve transferred the posts that used to exist at the blog Quiet Faith, Loud Opinions to this website.

(In fact, I will be setting the redirects to this website up shortly after I make this post.)

I’ve primarily done this because it was getting frustrating to feel the need to maintain multiple online personas and not really give any of them due attention. I also felt as though theming my blogs was stifling my ability to publish and write what I wanted to because my first question was “where will I put this?” which is a terrible question to be asking about personal writing.

The posts are backdated to the date they were originally published and can be found under the tag #quiet-faith-loud-opinions. I’ve also re-tagged these posts to include the tag #quakers to indicate that they were initially written for that audience.

If you go on X, one of many accounts you’ll find screaming into the void about trans people is operated by Sex Matters to Quakers.

Female Masculinities and the Gender Wars: The Politics of Sex is about the relationship between butchness, transmasculinity, and the people who are against these forms of self-expression. It was published in 2021. Four years later, the political climate in the UK that it describes has materially changed, but the conflicts that Finn Mackay describes haven’t really.

I really liked Body Problems: What Intersex Priest Sally Gross Teaches Us About Embodiment, Justice, and Belonging by M. Wolff. I read it for the first time in early September, and I left a short review on StoryGraph at the time in part to record my immediate thoughts and in part because I thought that leaving a review might help other people to find the book. It was a sacrifice to the almighty algorithm.

In her 2020 book Hatred: Understanding our Most Dangerous Emotion, Berit Brogaard presents a complex but not comprehensive analysis of the emotion of hatred.
